Ecem Özkan: post-doctoral researcher

I am a postdoctoral researcher in artificial intelligence applied to animal cognition at the Prepared Minds Lab. My academic background is interdisciplinary, and I am very excited for our journey to discover how biological priors in perception and cognition can be applied to artificial neural networks. For my PhD (Electronics Engineering and Computer Science at QMUL), I have worked on computationally modelling human non-verbal behaviour in natural dialogue. Making connections between multiple fields and ideas is definitely a welcomed challenge for me – and an amazing aspect of our lab in my opinion!

Our quest for connecting the dots between models and hypotheses relating to priors and learning will start with psychophysics experiments to evaluate cognitive/perceptual priors in the assessment of motion trajectories in humans. Baby chicks and AI? Stay tuned!
