Antonella Torrisi - PhD Student
I am a PhD student in Electronic and Computer Engineering at the Centre for Digital Music (C4DM) and the Prepared Minds Lab.
I have a Master's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Data Science and Big Data Analytics. My research interests include the study of animal cognition and communication, and in recent years I have been focusing on the use of artificial intelligence to study animal behaviour.
I am currently working on bioacoustic research, specifically on the vocal interaction of chicks.
In my PhD project, I use chicks' vocalisations as the main proxy. Through this research, I aim to understand the meaning of chicks' vocalisations and to study how chick behaviour is shaped by early vocal interactions with a feedback system that simulates the calls of other living animals. The ultimate goal of my project is to create a living system that, by interacting acoustically with chicks, can improve their welfare and give us insight into aspects of communication otherwise not accessible with other paradigms.
